Bird lovers across the country thronged Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday as a day-long bird fair was held on the campus.
The ‘Bird Fair 2016’ gave the campus a festive look with presence of hundreds of people, including teachers and students of the university.
With the slogan “Pakh Pakhali Desher Rotno, Ashun Shobai Kori Jotno”, zoology department of the university has organised the bird fair like every year.
Vice-Chancellor of the JU Professor Farzan Islam inaugurated the fair on the premises of university’s Shaheed Minar around 10am.
Mukid Mazumder Babu, chairman of Prakriti O Jibon Foundation, eminent bird specialist Dr Enam Al Haque were present as special guests at the inaugural function with zoology department Chairman Prof Dr Monwar Hossain in the chair, campus sources said.
During the fair, bird-loving people tried to identify and learn about the migratory birds which were flocking in the lake of the university using telescopes and binoculars.
The day-long fair also featured a drawing competition, a quiz competition, a bird exhibition, and a debate competition.
